Racine, Wisconsin is celebrating 175 years! Come join us in our birthday bash! At around 12:15, our very own Racine Concert Band (RCB) will be playing at around 12:15 to help celebrate. I might stick around for a short afterward for autographs 😉 lol

• What: A collaboration concert, a combined piece at the end
• When: Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 7pm

I regularly walk around or stay up at night wondering, Did I Miss Something? Granted, we literally can’t do literally everything, but whether it’s a bucket list or life goals, or whatever it is you want to do, “Everybody needs a passion. That’s what keeps life interesting. If you live without passion, you can go through life without leaving any footprints.” — From Betty White’s book, If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won’t), even if that passion is ping pong.

I still feel like I missed my calling as a private investigator in criminal justice or detective in law enforcement, that would be more of a career option rather than a passion, which I already have as a musician. Here is my next gig:

• Who: UW-Parkside Wind Ensemble & Community Band
• What: A total music experience that includes modern to symphonic pieces
• Where: UW- Parkside Rita Music Performance Hall
• When: Thursday, October 8, 2023 @ 7pm
• Why: It’s good for you to have something to do, somewhere to go, people to see, even if by yourself
• How: Show up, get your ticket, take a seat. If you can’t, check out this live stream (same time)

I really miss Myspace blogging, where not only was it bonafide blogging like here, but could tag friends for guessing on pictures or incorporating into the blog storyline, and I think even fellow group members, even if not friends. Facebook wasn’t really a blog, though we had the option of tagging people. I’m glad we’re still going at this, though! Really, I Was Being Sincere! Y’all rock!

I’m just wondering, if anyone else kind of does their own chittering throughout the day, about various things. I’m wondering if this is an actual staff meeting, a status update, or utter lunacy…

From Echo & The Bunnymen self-titled album, Blue Blue Ocean, 1987. This is the type of 80s alt that I liked. It was more than just teenage angst, there was an underlying cause within the lyrics, going against the regime. I guess I’m still like that. Curious minds want to know how y’all doing, too!

Change is constant. As the seasons change, at Summer’s End, it feels like the cold is coming fast upon us, and I’m never ready for winter. Suspicious clouds threaten rain, not even letting bits of sun or moonlight act as an evening lamp. Even more dubious was when I stated as an 8-year-old that I was going to not only march in parades with a marching band but I’d also get paid to play. 2 years later, I started playing my clarinet. 3 years after that, I joined the marching band for 5 years. I even played on a relatively large stage, with a mostly full stage afterward. Sometime in my mid-20s, I’d played semiprofessionally for a short, and motherhood called… I figured maybe it wouldn’t happen again, yet, here I am, 50+ & back to getting paid to play. Good deal.

Here is toasting 54 years of UW-Parkside music & 101 years of Racine Concert Band. I’ll post concerts as they come up.

I think most people at least had a list of what they wanted to be when they grew up, and I don’t know how many of us got our 1st choice, though so many of us have hidden talents that don’t show up until later in life, or we accidentally fall upon them as a young adult or somewhere in the course of life.

My first choice was to be a musician, and I’m not sure how Musak became a bit derogatory with the implied meaning of boring or annoying. The intent is to be in the background while other things are going on, like business, mingling, etc. I’ve been able to accomplish this to an extent, even though I was 50 when it happened. Goes to show you’re never too old to Blow (2001)!

My 2nd choice was tied between being a lawyer or a police officer. I never really had the opportunity to pursue becoming an attorney, and I’m actually glad I never became a police officer, though I’m pretty sure my Missed Calling is being a private investigator for the attorneys, though. If I had the energy to keep up, it would do it.

I do not miss the September Dreams of going back to school, not for myself, or anybody else. No more school clothes shopping, school supplies for the kids, paper products for the classrooms, etc. That got really expensive, really fast.

My music teachers have been quintessentially transforming in the lives of many. The fact that I was able to get back into it & expand my musical outlets is pretty cool. I also admire those who have other creative outlets like photography & other visual arts and crafty people who make unique items. Don’t stop. While your regular jobs pay the bills, it’s the creating that keeps humanity going & culturally strong.
