Hi folks, I'm writing here to let you all know that if this mess with the "Repair Bill" ever gets straightened out, that this would mean that April's Law will be in the Wisconsin Assembly. April's Law is a piece of legislation that would protect our youth from sex predators on and offline, and would implement minimums so that no one would ever go with "a slap on the hand" for harming a child. This would not apply to the high school sweethearts, where the couple could have spent time in high school together, because the sweetheart term would mean it's fully consensual. Like any piece of legislation, it could always use extra support, so please continue to sign the petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/aprils-law-wisconsin/
I'd like to sincerely thank Representative Cory Mason for helping to author this along with former Senator John Lehman, and Rep. Mason will be sponsoring it this session. Please send him a quick thank you note for doing this for the safety of our children - Rep.Mason@legis.wisconsin.gov
Representative Robin Vos had kindly met with me, even though I'm not his constituent, and he was extremely supportive to April's Law. Representative Bob Turner also appeared interested to support it via email correspondence, so lets write to urge them to contact Rep. Mason to co-sponsor April's Law. Rep. Vos - Rep.vos@legis.wisconsin.gov - and Rep. Turner - Rep.turner@legis.wisconsin.gov
Thank you for the support, and please keep passing the petition around.
The one disturbing thing though, is that Senator Van Wangaard has ignored 3 emails and 2 voice messages I've left him on this issue. I realize that learning the ropes as a new senator takes time, and now here's the repair bill... But still, I emailed him days after the election, called him just after the inauguration, wrote again after that, called once more... and the last time was just a couple of days ago, and still nothing. The way bills usually go, is that the senate or assembly has a version, they tweak it, give it to the other, and then it goes back and forth... it just takes faster if both can start with it, hand it to each other, the compromise comes out, and which ever compromise sounds better is the one they use. It will have SB (for senate bill) or AB (for assembly bill) with a number attached. That number is what number it is in line of bills being introduced. So anyway, I don't want to be rude, but I'd like Sen. Wangaard to represent us, as constituents, since we believe in protecting our children from sexual violence, that he should get back to me on this very important issue. His contact info is -

Please write or call, letting him know this:
Dear Senator Wangaard,
My name is (state your name) and I am a constituent. I believe in April's Law, because it protects our children from sex predators on and offline that want to use our youth for their own gratification. I urge you to contact Lika Saliscente, the founder of Youth Voice Initiative to work on getting the senate version passed to ensure that our children are well protected by the court of law. Please email her at lika.yvi@gmail.com, and note April's Law in the subject line.
Thank you for your time, and I appreciate your efforts to protect our children.
Sincerely,
(sign your name)
(title or association if any)
