Blogophilia Week 38.16 – Good Fortune

From the house of Marvin Martian: Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Dear Earthlings and Fellow Blogophilians!! Welcome to Week 38 of Year 16 in Blogophilia! Make sure you wear green on St. Paddy’s Day, lest you may get pinched! 😉

Blogophilia Facebook group and on WordPress blog topic parameters & how it works

Hard Bonus: Mention a mysterious location or haunted place

Easy Bonus:
Include a gold or silver coin

Leprechaun O’path

We could all use some Good Fortune. I am fortunate that my place of employment is being cool about my work there. With this major surgery, I was able to get this weekend off, and will have the opportunity to make it up to my co-worker later in the month. And because I will be able to pick up an extra silver coin or even some gold coins later!

Winslow School

I’d like to know more about Winslow School, originally Racine’s 3rd Ward school. At it’s former location, people, especially students have seen apparitions & more. When I was about 19, I was 1 of 6 college students to go there to “internationalize” the school. My college contacts from the International Student Organization included a guy from Saudi Arabia to go into 5th grade, a guy from the Philippines in 4th grade, a Cantonese guy in 3rd grade, a Pakistani gal in 2nd grade, Mandarin Chinese gal in 1st grade, and I took kindergarten (both AM & PM0. At the end of the school year, we came back for their open house when all the parents came, also. The artwork, projects, etc. were so fun to look at.

East Meadows Cemetary

The next place is East Meadows Cemetery. There is a West Meadows way out in the county, but I don’t know about that one. East Meadows started off being kind of like a Potter’s Grave for unclaimed family members & still born babies before some compassion went into those babies’ families. Many got moved to West. I can’t be for sure, but some of the homeless people who have passed are rumored to be buried here, and especially if anyone has unresolved issues, who knows.

I’m not one to really believe in spooks, but, let’s face it. If our spirits live on past our bodies, where do they go? Not everyone goes to an afterlife, so are these haunts in purgatory? Don’t know they aren’t physical anymore? I have questions…

Blogophilia 46.15: Wherever She Goes

Blogophilia Facebook group Right Here

Blog topic parameters & how it works HERE

Hard Bonus: Include a song title that mentions something celestial

Easy Bonus: Incorporate a memory of your mother

Sometimes it’s difficult for me to think of a positive memory of my mother, even though she’d bought me a tenor sax for Christmas one year… She always had ulterior motives. It’s why I tend to stick with my Godmother, who is my aunt, who has always been good to me. Wherever She Goes, my heart is with her.

In case you missed last week’s Wind Ensemble & Community Band’s concert, here is the LIVESTREAM – music starts at 11:30

In this economic crisis, it’s hard to not think that there is a Bad Moon On The Rise. Because of the low census at the place I work, every department is cutting back a little bit on hours. It doesn’t affect me much since I don’t have a lot of hours to begin with, so I just feel like it’s good that I’m playing in the Racine Concert Band, which has a show coming up.

  • Who: The RCB with Case High School Band
  • What: Concert with both groups & combined piece at the end
  • Where: Case High School 7345 Washington Avenue Racine, WI
  • When: Thursday, May 23, 2024 @ 7pm
  • How: Please purchase tickets online HERE, as there will be no cash sales on site
  • Why: It’s good for you.

More info next week. Happy Mother’s Day to you all, birth moms, adopted moms, stepmoms, foster moms, pet moms, surrogate moms, and all of you! I work later, but my son is doing steak dinner.

Advocacy & More

As the founder of Youth Voice Initiative, I get called upon often to do advocacy work, whether it's for a single parent who needs a letter written to the courts, or to speak up for a special needs child, or to help see what kinds of programs are available for various things whether it's a support group or just information in general.  It is truly rewarding to know that I can help make a difference for some people, including the lives of children.

Because of the experiences I've had, I'm also a volunteer advocate for Sexual Assault Services, and take the crisis phone to offer peer support as well as to make hospital visits for recent survivors.  It's not always easy work, but very worthwhile, because sometimes as the advocate, I might be the only one they see as being on their side.  One thing I enjoy doing, when there are small children present, whether the survivor is a child or the adult survivor brings their children in, is that I like to read age-appropriate books with them.  Reading often reduces stress and allows people to feel more normal.

In my own free time, I enjoy reading as well, and my favorite genre is Science Fiction, just because it's filled with action, technology, culture, and more.  It fascinates me.  The current story I'm reading is still a work in progress by a friend of mine, Soldwolf, called Meeting the Parents, which is a military sci-fi set in the future, where Earth is unified and has allies culturally and militarily with other humanoid type species intergalactically.  Please check previous blogs for more information, if you'd like.

Parties, Friends & Guests (Ch 33) We all like to eat. Sometimes it's nice to not have to cook, and it's even better when you have your special place with that special someone. The earth hero, Scott, even found a favorite spot on his lovely's planet that he even wants to show off to his family! But the question is, though, are the potential in-laws going to get along with each other? Or will it be a disaster? The dynamics can get interesting, so just read & find out for yourself. I just have to wonder though, where are MY Kyoto hair sticks?

Gathering Friends (Ch 34) It's fun to meet new people, especially when they're going to be important connections. While exciting and comforting, it can get overwhelming. I'm feeling the hero, who is anxious about remembering names, but fortunately, his lovely & her family are there for support. Even with his military friends, it's all about balancing work & life. I'm just wondering though, will they get to introduce Cajun cooking to these nice Tamalnii people? If this chapter doesn't tug at your heartstrings, I don't know what will.

Friends Reunited (Ch35) It's refreshing to find that even big tough guys can have a gentle soul, and how often, they could use a personal hero, too. heartwarming stuff, and when reuniting with friends, who are also formally connected, what better than hosting an official dance? And then of course, what is a dance w/o doing more party planning? So much fun stuff going for sure!

A Circle of Friends (Ch36) Everyone needs a good one of these, and I tell you, the hero and his lovely are lucky to have who they have. I'm really digging the new characters introduced, and how they get back to business on both work and personal fronts! Oh, and some huge things are brewing, so you don't want to miss out on the action!

Now, please be a dear, and click the highlighted areas, they're hyperlinks to where you need to go to read.

I can't want to like that!

Our children are funny.  They all make me laugh.  I can't count the number of times I laughed until I hurt because my son would say the damndest things, and at 19, he's STILL cracking me up.  Plus, being a boy after his mother's heart, he loves Science Fiction and the weird stuff too, so I'm going to try to get him into my friend Soldwolf's military sci-fi story, Meeting the Parents - which so far capitalizes on so many of my interests. I’m hoping to share his stuff, just because the characters are endearing, and while the hero & his betrothed are strong people who can not only steal the scenes but the show and thunder too. Plus, the more hits that are received, the better he can catch the attention of publishers who may end up helping him to get a book deal that could end up on the shelf... I’m linking my previous blogs as a reference for previous chapters published...

Anyway, I remember the time when my son was the ripe age of 2. Yes, 2. he was probably one of the easiest 2-year-olds, since he rarely threw a tantrum. I could count on less than one hand how many he had in a week, and if he had a particularly large one, I knew it would be a while before another occurred. But I digress... Poor lil guy. We did some deep house cleaning one day, and here it was 8 pm and we hadn't started cooking dinner yet, and he was patiently annoyed by the fact that he was hungry and tired. We took out a glass jar of store-bought spaghetti sauce and figured we'd doctor it up. Italian food is ultimately his favorite food to this day. So we get it on a plate, and he practically jumps into his high chair, eagerly grabs his fork & starts twirling the pasta like a champ. It goes into his mouth, and oh, the look on his face! As he's chewing, he throws his fork onto his plate. While swallowing he pushes the plate away and as soon as he catches his breath, insists, "I CAN'T WANT TO LIKE THAT" Ooh, boy!!! It was one of the better brands you can buy, yet, here is this ripe old 2 years who knows it's not the good homemade stuff and refused to have any of it! A food connoisseur at this age? Whoda thunk? Well, he's always hated Spaghetios, too. Go figure. Now, he works at a 5* restaurant.

I think my young chef would like Soldwolf's story, and in chapters 1-4 (listed in my blog I Have A Story About That) shows how a futuristic Earth would have a single conglomerate military that works in alliance with each other as opposed to individual countries being separate, which not only unites humanity but also has alliances with other humanoid species.

Going back a couple of years before my son was even born, I remember picking up my Godchild from kindergarten on a nice fall afternoon, and on the way home, he's pointing out the various trees randomly & casually stating, "Oh, look. That tree is naughty. Oh, and that one, too. Ah! That one is really naughty!"... Just to have the record straight, I asked, "Why are the trees naughty"? and braced myself... "Because the trees are BUTT-NAKED"! I about tripped over my own feet.

My Godson always loved reading active books, and I'ms sure he'd enjoy this, too, especially the hero, who is strongly focused, yet protective over his Talmanii sidekick, who keeps him balanced. In chapters 5-8, posted within Reading, Writing & Tutoring, you'll see the character development of these two.

Then there was the time when my nephew was in preschool... My sister in law and niece lived upstairs, and he'd slept over... I woke up in the morning with my niece knocking on the door to say that her cousin crapped in the driveway... Oooh-wee! And there he is, with this bewildered look, and could have played Calvin from the comic strip, Calvin & Hobbs. My sister in law was called to clean up. It still makes me giggle thinking about this.

Mind you, now, he's kind of like the barbecue master on that side of the family, and he also does yard work & flies homing pigeons as a hobby. He'd love chapters 9-12 from Interesting Tidbits just because it would be interesting for him to learn about the space adventures that happen out there.

Fast forward a few months, into mid/late fall, when my sister in law made lasagna that didn't hold together... My Godson 1st stated it looked like throw-up then decided to call it lasagna soup. At my niece's birthday, she was going to make lasagna again, and the nephew, who'd heard about the lasagna soup exclaims, "I don't want to eat lasagna that looks like throw-up"! I locked myself into the bathroom... fortunately it all came out fine.

I think my niece would like the character development so far because of the main couple as this interspecies being so endearing, as you'll see more in chapters 13-16 in my Rants blog, to cheer this cute Talmanii gal with the cute ears and her studly Earthling hero. Her mother, my sister in law, would fall in love with the romance of the couple, and how her family supports the relationship. Chapters 17-20 is captured in Summer fun & Adventures.

Please read and if you could, keep reading. It is a work in progress, and you'd be helping a veteran break into the business. With enough hits, he can catch the attention of the publishers and possibly get his story published into a book.

I just love these characters in the story, though. The main gal is kind of a contradiction and in some ways. She is strong, capable and independent, yet is close to her family as you read in Goodbye's & Travels (Ch 21). She is also adventurous & curious while cautious in a smart way as you'll see in (Ch 22) Journeys & Preparations. Because she knows how to balance work, family & relationships, she appreciates her studly for his strength and enjoys that he accepts her family the way they do him in Preparations (Ch 23). And who knows what to look for, when there are Deliveries to be made, and are the dynamic duo sending or receiving these in chapter 24?

Cultural Rant of an Advocate...

Here in North America, today is Mother's Day.  I kind of like the idea of celebrating parenthood.  It's weird, though, because I spent the 1st 8 years of my life in Japan, and don't remember having specific days where we honored our parents of either or both genders.  In Japan, they celebrate Girls' Day on March 3 of every year, and I remember the doll set that would be carefully taken out, in honor of the ancient old customs of the Japanese royalty coming out and placed just right in a prominent spot in the house, to show off to everyone who comes in, to brag that you are proud parents of daughters.  I guess because all children are expected to respect and obey their elders, to the point that even teachers are revered as secondary parents to all in school.  I do vaguely remember celebrating Grandparent's day, but, because I had no living grandparents there, I never got to celebrate.  But my sister & I always looked forward to putting this up, just because it was fun, and it was carried over into our teens even after coming here.

Even though people like to think that Eastern and Western cultures are very different, there ARE similarities.  While specific foods might be different, what carries over is the love of barbecued foods, except those of us who live(d) in Tokyo could never have anything awesome such as a Barbecue Pit (Ch 13)!  Reading is also something that is common, and of course, the most popular types of things were documentaries, biographies, crime fiction, and of course, who can forget Sci-Fi?  I bring this up, because my friend, Soldwolf, the Navy veteran who is writing a story called Meeting the Parents, which is a military Sci-Fi novel with a few other genres put in, and has aspects of work ethic, family values, romance, and humor...  He also spent at least a little bit of time in Japan, and actually trusts my cooking skills in making ethnic, homestyle Japanese food and enjoys it.  I just hope it doesn't get back to the Naval SSQH (Ch 14) because the only thing I might be able to keep up with the sailors is my swearing capacity, possibly... But, I do enjoy feeding people, especially family and friends.

Even though my mother is totally a born & raised American, from right here in Racine, WI (she never left the area until she married my father), and my original language was English, (I actually had to go out to the playground as a tot to learn Japanese from the other children), I basically was raised mostly Japanese while there, so when my mother came here with my sister and I, there was a time where I had to go through Familiarization (Ch 17) to get acclimated to life in these United States.  It wasn't always peaches and cream, that's for sure, and some fresh strawberries have always been my favorite.  Of course, when I had my own family, I have a son, but we've always been here, so I was never able to celebrate Boys' Day, which happens ever May 5th, by being able to fly windsocks like this off my front porch to brag that I am a boy mom!  I'm not sure, but I think I would have 2, a bigger black one to represent my 1st son who I lost in childbirth, and then a red or orange one that is slightly smaller to celebrate my now 19-year-old.

Of course, we shouldn't always be afraid of Cultural Differences (Ch 16) because I think it's fun celebrating many of those unique things.  Think about how fun it is to go to events such as Italian Fest or Greek Fest.  I think we should bring back Afro Fest, and then add Asian Fest or something!

Anyway, please click the highlighted chapter titles incorporated into my blog.  The more reads he gets, the better chance Soldwolf actually gets to being sold as an author.  Thank you!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month 2

I cannot say enough, that as adults, we MUST speak up for our children. It’s crazy how many people want to sit back and do nothing. Doing nothing makes you a supporter of those who abuse their children. I’m also wondering why some people have a problem signing this petition, since ignoring the issue will also, not solve anything but to allow child predators to keep raping our children. So, you don’t want to sign because you don’t want to feel like a hypocrite? You running off with your 20 year old boyfriend/girlfriend when you were 17 is not the same thing, as a 30 year old targeting your 5 year old. The main difference is, when you were 17, you chose to run off. A 5 year old does not have this choice. Get it? So, if you’re saying that because you fell into the “Romeo & Juliet” scenario makes it so that you don’t want to sign, you’re stating that you don’t have a problem with your 40 year old uncle (or aunt) can take your 12 year old child into the bedroom for sexual purposes.

I’m also hearing from people that they “don’t agree with the stiffer sentencing” because some other country “does therapy & counseling” to reduce the rate of recidivism. I have never seen that study. At all. But, sorry. You. Can. Not. Cure. Classic. Pedophilia. Pedophiles are not mentally their own age, nor do they think there is anything wrong with full grown adults having sex with young children. They just know that society doesn’t agree with it. But, not all sex offenders who prey on children are pedophiles. Child molesters target children because they rationalize the abuse somehow. And no; it is untrue that most are those who were sexually abused as children. The fact is, only 29% of those who have been sexually abused as children go on to become child molesters or pedophiles. Because many take advantage of opportunities coming to them, it isn’t something that “just happens”.

Here is another FYI: All sexual violence is GROSSLY under-reported, so, the likelihood of a false report is extremely rare, especially if the victim is a child. With the widespread issue child sex abuse being so prominent, it makes it even MORE important to take a stand. The best way to prevent your children from being sexually assaulted or abused is to know your children and have a strong bond with them, which includes open communication. Child predators will target children with low self esteem, and understands that many are not close to their parents, which makes an easier target a child. Know your child. Understand your child. Have mutual respect between you and your child. When you know your child, the behavior changes are more obvious, and when they divulge, believe them. This will help your child move past the victimization. Never blame your children for the abuse, because frankly, no. They did NOT ask for it. Get to know the facts. Too many of these statistics are very frightening, and with the widespread problem, you probably know at least a few survivors of sex assaults. Just to give you an idea of how wide spread it is, think of 4 women you love, respect, and are close to.

Now, think of 6 men that you love, respect, and are close to. Depending on their ages, there is one on each list that has been sexually abused, or are at risk of it. There are various forms of child sex abuse, and child pornography is one of them. Do not minimize it by saying that the viewer is not abusing those children, because they are revictimizing those children every time the child porn is viewed. It is this very demand that keeps the makers of these images coming, and with each new wave of people, they will keep needing “new material” which is why human trafficking is such a big buck industry in and of itself.

The sad thing is, I’ve heard through the grapevines through various networks, that parishioners of the faith facility I used to attend, were told not to help me out in my cause, because whomever told them insisted that I am only seeking attention, and because of who told them, they felt that they didn’t have a choice but to follow orders. I wonder if whomever said anything has something to hide. Are they protecting pedophiles? Have they sexually assaulted minors? Why would anyone want to exert that kind of power against protecting children from sex abuse? I don’t know. That just means that I need your support more than ever.

Please, I ask you, to help me get #LikasLaw4Wisconsin trending, anywhere and everywhere online. You don’t need to live in Wisconsin to help make this push. We only need to get as many people in Wisconsin to sign this petition as possible, and let’s make it go viral. Please sign and share widely, this petition to ensure that those who sexually assault children do not get to walk.

Important Info 4 Activated 501c3-Nonprofits!

As the founder for Youth Voice Initiative, a 501c4 nonprofit a social organization to push the social changes necessary to better protect our abused children in this great society, there is a reason why I made it a 501c4, and not a 501c3, which is for charitable or faith based organizations (before anyone says they’re not the same thing, yes, duh, I know... the word “or” is an identifier for a choice, not to say that 2 things are the same). Some faith organizations are very charitable, yet many charitable organizations have little to nothing to do with faith organizations.

Faith based or not, there are a lot of things a 501c3 can do. Rescue abused animals; adopt homeless pets; raise awareness and collect money for homeless veterans; create a safe place for those who are abused; organize to ensure foster children have suitcases or backpacks instead of garbage bags to hold their personal items; start a community center; find a faith based organizations; and the options are almost limitless... One thing that does not cover, is how much lobbying, political activism, etc. involved... A 501c3 is also tax exempt, and also can apply for government grants to help fund charitable activities, such as food for the poor. These organizations can also do as much awareness campaigns as they see fit, also. But I think (don’t quote me) that the amount of government campaigning or lobbying efforts are limited to 10% of the money/efforts, and there are rules as to which areas of that are allowed or not.

See, YVI, as a 501c4, can dedicate as much time to political activities, such as changing laws, etc. as it sees fit. Awareness can be anywhere from 0-99%, but taking political stances on issues like child abuse can take anything from 1-100%. Here is the official website: https://sites.google.com/site/youth...

So, just as an FYI, I want to be able to give you links, to understand what is or isn’t allowed as a 501c3, because without the awareness and charity organizations to put forth toward this topic of how childhood abuse and trauma lasts a lifetime, YVI’s job would be so much more difficult... Here are the links:
Limits on political campaigning - http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclope...
How much lobbying is allowed - http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclope...
Risks to Nonprofit status - https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/...

There are many more articles online, from reputable areas. So... Any 501c3 out there who deals in part or in full about childhood abuse & trauma, I, as the founder of YVI, am offering to partner up with you, to be able to expand your reach into being able to pursue these endeavors under the Youth Voice Initiative mission, to help make our corner of the planet a safer place for abused children. Carry on!

April Is Child Abuse Awareness Month

I’d actually like it to be more than just awareness, but also ACTION to take a stand against child abuse. The situation is not going to go away, just because you choose to ignore it. Child abuse is not a thing to minimize, just because you are uncomfortable. Being quiet about it is actually helping all of the abusers, not the victims.

The reason it’s important, is because April 25 is Alice Day, a pedophile holiday. Just because a certain pedophile targets boys does not make them gay. With very young children, the gender doesn’t really matter. Classic pedophiles just don’t care, it’s perpetrating the innocence that gets them turned on. What ever you hear about pedophiles not being bad people, think again. Pedophiles sexually abuse children. Good people do not turn children into “play things” or “sex toys”.

Your stance to "not get involved" is perpetrating the abuse.

Here is a Youth Voice Initiative (YVI) FYI update:
Johnathan and Shawn are on their way to move to Washington State. While this will be a loss for our organization, I wish them well in their new endeavors for a new start, and new adventures to chase what they seek in life.

So, we need a few people to try to be kind of regular at our meetings, especially since we need people now, to study a couple of aspects of an issue that we will be compiling to make an educational packet to pitch to our courts, schools, and other counseling places where they help children’s progress after being repeatedly abused. We need at least 1 person on each topic, so, please come to our next meeting to be brought up to speed.

1) The info from Help Guide Organization, which is a self-help guide for those who are survivors of childhood trauma and abuse. This may be helpful for those who support those who have lived through this type of abuse. Our entire legal system needs to keep this in mind, when creating, enforcing, practicing, and interpreting our laws.

2) The Blue Knot Foundation, whose mission is to empower people who suffered from childhood trauma, the research documents 150 years’ worth of studies regarding this topic. There are many psychological and psychiatric issues that may come up, due to enduring child abuse through the young, formative years.

Our next meeting is April 22 @ 3 pm, because the 16th is Easter Sunday. Hope to see everyone there.

In the meantime, there is this important petition called Lika’s Law 4 Wisconsin. We need as many signatures as possible, and please help take it to viral efforts, and make #LikasLaw4Wisconsin be something that is trending. While Wisconsin signatures are the most important, any support is good support.

Below, I am posting important links. I encourage all to check them out, especially to get signatures on the petition. Here are the links:

Youth Voice Initiative: Petition Drive & Education Material Study

Youth Voice Initiative (YVI) is a registered 501c4 to make the social changes necessary to stiffen up on those who abuse our children.  There is always a need for more involvement, in various ways, both "behind the scenes" as well as to put forth the effort to get more awareness that we are here for the purposes of protecting our children.  For more information, please visit our website:  https://sites.google.com/site/youthvoiceinitiative/home

Currently, we have a few things going.  Here are the minutes of our last meeting.

Youth Voice Initiative March 18, 2017 Minutes

Call to Order:  3:03pm

Present:  Courtney, Jonathan, Shawn, Mike, Lika

Old Business:

1)      Background story and petition wording voted:  Unanimously passed

2)      Study on Trauma Informed Care & childhood trauma affecting brain development:

A)    Courtney brought important articles regarding Trauma Informed Care, and how it is already implemented other places, and how trauma could come from anywhere, such as divorce, loss of employment, becoming homelessness, etc.  She will be looking up information on who gave the training on this for prison & parole staff.

B)    Shawn will be looking into the research done by the Blue Knot Foundation, whose mission is to empower people who suffered from childhood trauma.  They have research going back 150 years.

C)    Jonathan will be looking into the Help Guide Organization which offers self-help guides put together from professionals for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse, as well as to offer help to those who support survivors of trauma.

D)    Mike will be looking into Healing Resources Info & the Dana Foundation about how childhood trauma & abuse is directly tied to the actual physical brain development as well as how it affects how information is processed.

E)     Lika will be looking into Healthland, a branch of Time Magazine and NCBI/NIH on how survivors of childhood trauma can be more prone to various mental health disorders.  It would be good if survivors of abuse had services paid for.

F)     Barb (not present) will be offering her editing services for when we are ready to have an educational guide put together to teaching materials for the people working in the process leading up to incarceration as well as school counselors, and other personnel who deal with counseling survivors of violence.

New Business:

1)      How to pursue more awareness to get higher involvement and/or future fundraisers has been tabled until future notice.

2)      No other new business.

Discussion:

1)      Next meeting will be on the 4th Saturday, April 22, 2017 @ 3pm, due to the 3rd Saturday being Easter weekend.

2)      Those wanting the informational articles regarding the Trauma Informed Care and how it is implemented should message Lika, to be able to get a copy sent.

3)      For those who have experience with studying issues and making input into making educational information, please speak up to help out, having 2 or more people per topic would be helpful, to get a fuller perspective to go into the education packet.  Your name will be listed as an author for this information.

Adjournment:  3:53pm

Here is the information about Trauma Informed Care and how childhood trauma affects brain development, and we need people to help study each of these sections to be able to come together to make an education packet to give to Law Enforcement, Court System, School Nurse/Counselor's office, and other segments in social services to teach them about the effects of childhood abuse and how the brain does not develop the way it normally should.  This is important to address, since there are certain checkpoints that may not be attained to bring into the real world as an adult, to be successful in relationships, higher education, and careers for the rest of their lives.  Here is the info, and please help us round out each section, so we have at least 2 people studying each topic, to have the most well rounded education package to bring to the floor.

1)      According to Blue Knot Foundation, whose mission is to empower people who suffered from childhood trauma, the research documents 150 years’ worth of studies regarding this topic.  There are many psychological and psychiatric issues that may come up, due to enduring child abuse through the young, formative years.

2)      Healthland, a branch of Time magazine, talks about how child abuse sets up the brain to be more susceptible to future mental illnesses and disorders.

3)      Healing Resources Info has at least a couple of articles out about how early childhood trauma can affect developmental issues, such as the fact that children’s brains have plasticity that is still flexible, where it loses it as time goes on. This will affect how stress is handled, because the normal attachment and emotional bond that happens from infant with primary care taker is not present.  Those who grew up with abuse in their homes are at greater risk of entering other traumatic situations as adults.

4)      The Dana Foundation, which is an organization that is dedicated to bringing, “your gateway to responsible information about the brain” talks about the neurological effects of childhood trauma and abuse, which affects people a whole lifetime.

5)      The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), a branch of the National Health Institute (NIH), talks about the broad range of abuse, neglect, lack of income, etc. takes a toll on the psyche, and does indeed make a correlation with future health issues, from immunological to pain, to poverty issues.  This shows that even the federal public health sector understands the issues with these disorders.

6)      Here is a link from Help Guide Organization, which is a self-help guide for those who are survivors of childhood trauma and abuse.  This may be helpful for those who support those who have lived through this type of abuse.  Our entire legal system needs to keep this in mind, when creating, enforcing, practicing, and interpreting our laws.

Trauma Informed Care – A packet for therapists, counselors, & general public:

Studies show that childhood trauma leads to brain anomalies, where proper development is hindered, altered, etc.  and how therapists and group leaders can assess if a person has had abuse issues.  It is used in prisons, to determine the root of prisoner behaviors.

Trauma informed care is grounded in and directed by a thorough understanding of the neurological, biological, psychological, and social effects of trauma and the prevalence of these experiences in persons who seek and receive mental health services.

Here is an article from a psychologist about how trauma affects behavior, trust issues, and how human relationships are also negatively affected into adulthood, so, the thing of being told, “You’re an adult, now”, is of absolutely no use, what so ever.  It can take years to overcome a single trauma, depending on how bad the PTSD sets in.

We need to assign people to a group, to look more into this, to come up with an education packet to give to the legal system before incarceration, as we can learn from the Menendez brothers who killed their father for beating their mother, and threatening to kill her.  They were tried as cold hearted killers, when it was trauma from domestic violence.  Since the prison system already is putting this into place, and the lawyers, especially DA’s and Public Defenders, judges, and civilian therapy places that need to learn this process.

If anyone knows any teachers who can help develop this, it would be great, but, we can put this together by brainstorming, but, everyone needs to be willing to do their part to learn about how this relates and how it will affect people.  This needs attention.

This is a lot to take in, but, it is important.  Now, here is a push we can all do.  This is a petition to stiffen up on those who sexually prey on our children, and all too often, the sentencing is way too easy, and the children get returned to the very environment they were abused in, with the perpetrator still able to get easy access to the children, to keep the sex abuse going.  If they do not go into an in-house treatment program immediately, the consequences can be devastating to more and more children.

I need as many people IN WISCONSIN as possible to print one copy of this petition, and get it signed.  When finished, please mail it back to me through snail mail.  I will reimburse you for postage, if you need it.  Please copy this into a word document, and print this, below.  It will be a 2 page document, the 1st with the background story, and the 2nd being the actual petition.  We are in dire need of Wisconsin residents to sign this.

Background issues to support stiffer punishments on those who sexually perpetrate our children:

As advocates who make hospital visits for those who go in for E.R. for sexual assaults, we see that way too often, the male perpetrators of female children are let out way too easily by the judicial system.  Those who perpetrate our children need to be kept away from not only their victims, but other children as well, to prevent future child victims by the same perpetrator, especially if the offender is a classic pedophile (no gender preference).

Case #1:
A man was charged with a sexual assault on a child back in 2005.
In 2013, he sexually assaulted his 4 year old son.  He served 1.5 years.
He then went to live with a friend in 2015, and subsequently, sexually assaulted his friend’s 5 and 6 year old children.
These children were threatened, forced to use sex toys on themselves and each other, then forced perform sex acts with him and with each other.
He was set to serve a life sentence, and only served 2 years.
His most recent victim is a 16 year old girl, who he strangled her during the rape, and is looking at 9 counts of felony charges.
Although he was ordered to stay away from all minor children, since he took both male and female victims, he violated this grossly.

This is not the only case, it’s just one of many examples of those who perpetrate female children, already do not get stiff enough sentencing, as described above.

Case #2:
We, again as advocates, understands that sexual abuse by a teacher or other person of power is damaging, and is just as if not more damaging to teenage boys.
Because of the the maturity and understanding of this type of relationship has negative consequences on our young boys, since it is assumed that all boys want and enjoy sex from teachers or other leaders of groups they participate in.
There are also few supports in place for the male children to get support, therapy, and long term help to get through the situation.

As if the sentencing on those who perpetrate female children isn’t strong enough, there are even fewer sentencing among female sex offenders who target our children.

This is why we demand that upon the first arrest for sexual assaults on children must go through a 2-3 year in house therapy action for sex offenders to be let out into the public, upon being deemed low risk (not safe) by those in charge of the programs.  If they do not complete this program in house, there is a great likelihood that they will not do it on their own, just to assault more child victims, which is why it needs to be in-house.  If they refuse, the clock keeps getting reset until the offender cooperates and starts the anti-abuse therapy sessions and finish the program successfully before they get out.  They must also be mandated to stay away from minor children, and if a parent, have placement/custodial rights removed, permanently.  If visitation is allowed, by case by case situation, the visitation must be supervised by a trusted adult who will protect the children and not let the offender out of their site while the children are present.

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of the State of Wisconsin, urge your support of Lika’s Law, to put in stiffer penalties in place for all sex offenders, both male and female, who perpetrate our children.  The psychological and emotional damage to their child victims are too great to keep allowing these perpetrators off with little to no consequence.  As our elected officials, we urge you to support these measures:
A)    A 2 – 3 year in-house therapy program to instill in them the reasoning to why their actions are/were wrong.
B)    For refusal to go through the program, the sentence will not be counted until they go into the program.
C)    Strong mandates keeping the released perpetrators away from children, to prevent further victimization from happening.
D)    If they are a parent, lose placement/custody with only supervised visitations, to prevent repeated offenses on their children.
