Week 15: June 26th – July 2nd: Summertime

Subtopic: Mention a lyric from the song Summertime (from Porgy and Bess)

Subtopic 2: How do you cool off in the summer?

Hydro Therapy

It’s Summertime for sure, and it’s my favorite season. Lake Michigan, Root River, the Quarry, parks, and so many places with cool things to do. I’m glad that I’m part-time at work, so I have half the day to enjoy things like sitting in the shade with the breeze to cool off. Fresh air is always good.

The job thing is still a bit rocky. I’ve been told that with my work ethic, studies, etc. to keep growing as a person then you’ll spread your wings – and you’ll take to the sky yeah, okay… I know I’m an Aquarian, an air sign… but I’ve always felt like my wings were mangled, clipped, broken, etc. So, the traditional spreading wings to fly may have been the wrong route. I’m thinking I’m more of a make my own sails to skip the waters type of person.

Oh well… If anyone wants to join, you can, and you can use any platform you wish to make your entries. Anyway, here is to share the group & topics:

Week 14 Topic: Thank a Dad!

Subtopic 1: Question: Do you celebrate Father’s Day?

Subtopic 2: Mention a chore (It could be anything)

Captain Dad!

Sometimes it’s hard to know how to celebrate Father’s Day, especially since there are so many good dads out there, we should have time to Thank a Dad! I was never close with mine, and it went from not close to estranged after my parents split, to eventually nonexistent. But, my husband Mike has been such a good father type for my son, so yes, I celebrate Father’s Day.

My least favorite chore is dusting. Especially now, where it takes me 2 days just to do one room. I seriously despise shopping, since that is a total chore in and of itself. But, since I like to eat, I tolerate grocery shopping.

To celebrate the day, I’m taking my husband out to dinner. My son is out of state, so it’s just the two of us, in appreciation for him taking the time to do what he can to be a good dad for my boy. We’re doing a late Mexican dinner, since he works literally every Sunday.

Week 13 topic: Let’s Go on a Road trip!

Subtopic 1: Name your favorite vacation spot (It can be anywhere–even at home!)

Subtopic 2: Writer’s Choice (find your element)

I miss the days when I could just call someone up and say, hey, Let’s Go on a Road Trip! Of course, I was single with no children and didn’t have so many things that I had to be adulting on… The last road trip I went on was about 2 years ago, when Mike & I drove up to Madison (our State Capital) an hour away, and I showed him around a bit. It was fun.

Jump the wave!

I don’t think I have a specific place that I’d call a favorite vacation spot, though anything near a large body of water is always great! Growing up in Japan, I had the Pacific Ocean to the east. Here in Wisconsin, I have Lake Michigan (which looks & feels like an ocean w/o the salt content) to the east. I enjoyed visiting New York to go see a friend, I also loved Boston while there on a casual business trip through the Sister City Program. In both of those cases, I had the Atlantic Ocean to the east, so my sense of direction was intact. The times when I went to California & Oregon, that went topsy turvy because then I had the Pacific Ocean to the West, so… I’d point south thinking it was north, and while the huge waterway was awesome, I felt out of my element.

Growing up, I had thought that my astrological sign was a water one, since I’m an aquarian. The water bearer. Then I found out that I’m actually an air sign because it’s the wind that brings the gentle rains to water the crops or the fact that it can cause disasters too… I always love being near water, where I can’t resist running through sprinklers, dipping my toes into the lake, jumping through puddles, starting a water balloon fight, etc. But then again, also as a child, I was called “kazenoko” (ka-zeh-no-coe), meaning ‘child of the wind’ or wind-child. Despite these, I think my spirit is made of fire – for good since I’m an advocate.

Finding your element could mean understanding if you’re earth, wind, fire, or water, although it could also mean finding yourself wrapped in your passion. I guess me being a semiprofessional musician – feel like I’m in my element performing music in a concert.

A few things are going on, so if it seems like I’m rambling, my sincere apologies. Some of these things I don’t want to air publicly, others are new health information I’m still trying to digest, as well as trying to figure out how & where I’m going to publish a few things… I’d like to write my healthcare story, plus I have a couple of other creative stories I’d like to work on, but… with my current situation, feel like I can only focus on one main thing with a secondary, and that has to be Health as my primary focus then job/income as my 2nd. I will elaborate on these things when I’m ready. Thank you for everything!

Week 12 topic: Be Kind, Rewind

For 3 points: Mention a movie in your blog that you've watched over and over.

For 2 points: Question: VHS, DVD, or Digital. Which do you prefer?

In a world full of madness, hate, turmoil, etc. it's important to Be Kind, Rewind. Recently, there was a shooting at a funeral inside of a cemetery just blocks away from my previous neighborhood. Fortunately, the two people shot had minor injuries. But this was at a graveside service for a man who was shot by police just 2 weeks prior... As if the family & friends of this guy really needed this during the memorial service? Another mass shooting happened elsewhere in Wisconsin just a couple days later. Gunshots are normal, and half the time we don't know if something is happening or if someone is just making some noise. I seriously wonder what this world is coming to, and I feel bad for my son, who is a young adult, living in times like this.

So, I make it a point, rather than give up, to pass out the compliments, be a good person, rise above the situation, etc. I rewind by trying to take care of myself since things get overwhelming or tire me out since I have an autoimmune disorder. Healthy breakfast, since my appetite is low so that one super healthy meal to start my day is good medicine.

Save the Whale!

I like action movies, and Sci-Fi is my favorite genre. The movie I've watched most often is Star Trek: The Voyage Home. I have it on VHS, though maybe I should get it on DVD or something just so the movie set lasts a while.

I'm hoping that eventually, I'll be able to do my longer blogs, with pictures, links, etc. like I used to do on MySpace. Or maybe I'll just have to work on the stories in my head & think about writing those & getting them published? I just don't know where or how to start... And wondering if anyone would even read them. I don't know.
